Things to do in Newcastle with the Kids this Summer
So the school summer holidays are just about here, which means only two things:
- Restless children under your feet
- Pulling your hair out whilst trying to thing of ideas to entertain them
But it doesn’t need to be that way, and we’ll share with you some great ideas and activities in Newcastle for over the summer school holidays.
Best things to do with the kids in Newcastle this summer
1.) Get to the beach!
Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, Blyth, South Shields are all relatively close to any area in Newcastle and it’s free. Okay it might cost you a few dozen fizzy drinks and ice creams but it costs nothing to entertain your kids for hours upon hours on a public beach. The North East has some of the best beaches in all the UK and with the current heat wave it means you can get to work on your tan whilst they play. Some top tips if you’re planning to visit one of the North East’s beautiful beaches: Pack towels, sun cream, change of clothes and enough change for drinks and ice cream. If you are going to Whitley Bay make sure you visit Di Meo’s next to the Spanish City, it recently won another ‘best ice cream award‘
2.) Visit of the many a National Parks in Northumberland (It’s FREE!)
For more information visit their website
3.) Beamish Wild (Of Course)
We couldn’t leave ourselves on the list now could we? We know it’s not easy convincing your kids to get on the Xbox or away from the TV but just say to them ‘high ropes‘ ‘zip wire’ and you’ll soon get them to listen. The reason why so many kids love our high ropes course and adventure park is because it’s completely unique. Instead of Minecraft or Call of Duty they are living their own mini adventure. Our kids day out program is ideal if you want to relax whilst your children burn up all that excess energy. But if you’re feeling adventurous yourself why not get involved too.
4.) Life Science Museum
If you’ve never visited the Life Science Museum in Newcastle city centre then you’ve really been missing out on something pretty spectacular. Sponge Bob Square Pants is now on at the 3D motion ride where the passengers get to explore the magic of Bikini Bottom whilst facing off to the villainous plankton.
The Experiment Zone let’s the little ones be a real scientist for the day, using real lab equipment and working with actual scientists whom can answer all your questions.
Or for all interested in space and the cosmos, be sure to check out their planetarium.
5.) Blue Reef Aquarium Tynemouth
With parking front and back of Blue Reef and just walking distance from Tynemouth Metro you can explorer the underwater world, with an abundance of tropical and fresh water fish including: clown fish, octopus, rays, lion fish, pufferfish, deadly stonefish, blacktip reef sharks and seal exhibit and daily shows. They have also added a reptile centre with Green Iguanas and tree frogs. The cotton top tamarin monkey’s are a family favourite as well. Tickets start from just £5.50 per child (under 12)
6.) Whitehouse Farm
Located in Stannington just on the outskirts of Morpeth Whitehouse Farm offers fun for the whole family all year round. From tractor rides, soft play area, indoor racing cars, animal feeding area, outdoor play area and there’s even a cafe to feed and water the family.
